Freaking out over Google Caffeine? Relax….

by Amanda Vega on August 15, 2009

google-caffeineToday I’ll use our blog to post a response to our current clients and the inquiries we’ve received over the last week with regard to Google’s Caffeine release. While VERY elementary in explanation, we wanted to break it down to the terms that make sense to you (heavy geek to human translation here.)  None of our clients sites are affected, but we are using the tool to see if there’s any opportunity that may arise. So don’t panick – our nerds have it under control. Here’s what you need to know to seem smart at a party.

Google for the first time release a search index update that was officially named by Google, Caffeine.  Google has asked developers and users to give feed back on the search results returned by Caffeine.

Caffeine is not a mainstream search index and purely for research. Google will use data gathered by Caffeine to supplement and improve their current index but we won’t see major changes or updates because of Caffeine. Google has not historically worked this way.

Google seems to also be reacting to Microsoft’s release of Bing and the Microsoft Yahoo deal. Google has in the past released “new” tools and services when Microsoft has made announcements.

Happy searching!
